Localism

Localism is a term used to describe the habit of sourcing and eating local foods.

Habits such as purchasing from local farmer markets and eating from restaurants that serve locally sourced foods. Localism embodies accessibility, being local, nearby; anyone can have access to healthy foods.Local does not always imply it will meet all cultural needs. The foods made available at most, local farmers markets deny equal access to culturally appropriate foods. The farms or community gardens the food is sourced from often leaves out minority actors. Healthy, cultural foods are not accessible. The best way to be "local", is to support local food businesses and farmers in your communities that are ran and led by people of color and provide as much to those around you.
